1. Our Commitment to Privacy

GlobalTaxMate is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is stored, and your rights in relation to it.

We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. What Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information when you use the Platform:

Information you provide directly:

  • Assessment inputs (e.g. your visa status, PR application date, approximate income, account types held, property ownership)
  • Any details entered into calculators or tools
  • Messages sent via the AI chat widget
  • Your email address, if you create an account or opt in to communications

Information collected automatically:

  • Basic usage and analytics data (pages visited, time on site) via Vercel's platform analytics
  • Device type and browser type (no fingerprinting)

We do not collect:

  • Tax file numbers (TFNs) or Social Security Numbers (SSNs)
  • Bank account or financial account numbers
  • Government-issued identification documents

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Generate your personalised educational assessment and accountant preparation document
  • Improve the accuracy and relevance of the Platform's educational content
  • Respond to support queries
  • Send you relevant updates, if you have opted in

We do not use your information to:

  • Provide you with financial or tax advice
  • Share your data with advertisers
  • Sell your data to any third party

4. How We Store Your Information

Personal information entered into the Platform is stored securely using Supabase infrastructure hosted in the AWS Sydney (ap-southeast-2) region, keeping your data within Australia.

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including row-level security controls and encrypted storage.

Assessment data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 7).

5. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties except:

  • Service providers necessary to operate the Platform (e.g. Vercel for hosting, Supabase for database infrastructure, Anthropic for AI processing) โ€” these providers are bound by appropriate data processing terms
  • If required by law โ€” we may disclose information in response to a valid legal request

If you choose to contact a referred specialist (e.g. a tax accountant listed as a referral partner), any information you share with them directly is subject to their own privacy policy.

6. AI Processing

When you use the AI chat widget or generate an accountant preparation document, your inputs are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their own privacy policy and API usage terms. We do not store raw AI conversation logs beyond the current session unless you have an account and save your session.

7. Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time

8. Cookies and Analytics

The Platform uses minimal cookies necessary for session management and basic analytics. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. When you first visit the Platform, you will be presented with a cookie preference notice.

9. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not directed at individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The โ€œlast updatedโ€ date at the top of the document will reflect any changes. Continued use of the Platform after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
